Beloved Beanie Boos tend to need mending from time to time. Here is a guide that will help you keep your favorites in good condition.
How to Fix Scratches on Beanie Boo Eyes
One of the most common Beanie Boo repairs is removing scratches from their big, shiny eyes. The good news is that you can buff Beanie Boo eyes and get them looking almost new again. There are a few techniques that have worked for people and they depend on the depth of the scratches.
Gentle Methods
For the lightest scratches, you can cover the eye with toothpaste and then take a paper towel and massage. Make sure to use regular toothpaste, not the gel kind. Rinse, and the eyes should be dramatically improved.
This YouTube video from KpopJoy Velvet demonstrates the technique well:
Another gentle method is to do the same thing but use baby wipes instead of a paper towel as T.T. Tiger Channel demonstrates:
More Aggressive Method
For deeper eye scratches, use wet-and-dry sandpaper, 2500 grit. This should polish out the scratches. You can use one of the gentler methods after if lighter scratches remain.
Best Way to Wash a Beanie Boo
Giving your Beanie Boo a bath can be fun and the results are very impressive, especially if your Boo is dirty. Here are the steps involved: get a small nail brush, fill your sink with water and choose some soap – this can be shower gel, shampoo or a bar of soap. Wet the nail brush and put some soap on it. Brush your Beanie Boos fur with the wet, soapy nailbrush until dirt and stains are removed. Brush your Beanie Boo’s fur with water until the soap is out. Note: you do not need to completely submerge your Beanie Boo in water to wash it. It’s better to surface clean and then leave out to dry in a warm, spot (near a window, for example). Here’s a demonstration from ChannelforkidsUK:
When Your Beanie Boo Has a Hole
Beanie Boos often get holes around their neck area. If no stuffing is lost, the best thing to do is to sew up the hole as soon as possible. If you need an adult to do this, you might want to tape the hole until they are able to mend the animal so that no stuffing is lost.
Here’s a picture of a giant Chloe, getting stitches on her back.
As long as you match the thread to the Beanie Boo’s color, you should not be able to see the stitches afterwards:
If stuffing is lost, you should replace it before attending to the hole in the fabric. You can purchase stuffing from a craft store for a few dollars. Caution: Don’t overstuff a Beanie Boo – this will just lead to more holes.
Here’s a photo of Chloe who lost a lot of stuffing due to a hole in her back.
Here she is after being properly stuffed.
