Pepper Visits Castle Ruins
All my friends in Beanie Booville know that I love to read fantasy books about princes, princesses, dragons and castles.
So it was a dream come true for me when I got to visit a real castle ruins in France!
This castle was built in the 13th century. That’s 800 years ago! Unfortunately, it was destroyed during World War I by dynamite. But you can walk around and explore many interesting places still.
I got to walk along the castle walls, climb up into one of the towers, and go underground to explore the cellar. I’m a brave cat, but I got a little scared in the cellar. There were spiders. Did I mention, I hate spiders?
One of the best parts of my exploration was getting to stand on the fortress walls and look out over the beautiful lands of France. I thought about all the cats who may have crept along this wall over the past 800 years. They probably saw the same thing that I saw: green trees and grass, villages in the distance, and a bright blue sky.
Here is a picture of me looking at a tower staircase that is mostly destroyed. It was made of stone and built in a circle. I thought about going up but was afraid I might not be able to get back down. And I’m not sure if fire fighters rescue cats in France.
And here is a picture of the ruins. The arches are still standing and you can see some of the windows, but a lot of the castle is gone. There were flowers growing out of the stone. I thought that was pretty amazing!
I’m going to go back to Beanie Booville and write a story about cats living in an old, abandoned castle. I think that would be a wonderful story, don’t you? But I’ll leave the spiders out of it. Stay tuned for my story. I’ll be back soon.
